Original cloisonne Studebaker radiator emblem thought to date from the 1920's. It is in good condition, but the surface of the metal is pitted and the white cloisonne is abraded. It measures 2 5/8 in. by 2 in. and the rear mounting cup has been removed. Studebaker was America's largest producer of wagons in the 1870's and made a majority of the Conestoga wagons of the pioneer era. In 1902, the company started making electric cars, but in 1904, changed to gasoline powered cars. Studebaker was one of this country's major producer of cars, but has suffered periodic financial problems leading to ill-fated mergers, with Pierce-Arrow in 1928 and Packard in 1954. Both of those companies expired as the result of the mergers. Studebaker lost ground to the "Big 3" in the 50's, and the last Studebaker was built in Canada in 1966. Cost of this item is $75.00, which includes standard surface shipping to any point in the continental USA.
